The gash running north and west of the trail is the Tenaya Creek canyon. A trail goes part of the way up the canyon to Mirror Lake and the Snow Creek Trail, but the upper canyon has no official trails. The dark blob at the northermost trailhead is Tenaya Lake, roughly a mile from end to end.
