Steer's Head (Dicentra uniflora) flowers

Steer's Head (Dicentra uniflora)

You might have noticed that the lead steer is beginning to deteriorate a bit, a reminder of how brief the blooms are for Dicentra uniflora. I photographed these flowers on a Wednesday and returned the following Sunday to find that they had disappeared altogether, and of the dozens of flowers I'd seen on the first trip, only a handful were left, with all of these lying flat on the ground in a most abject and pitiable condition. An ice cream cone gets a shorter moment in the sun, but not by all that much.
