Near the Trailhead
The Hite Cove Trail ascends rapidly from Highway 140 to this elevation above the river, but then settles down, with less pronounced ups and downs for the next mile+ before descending to the river. This photo makes the canyon wall look more foreboding than it appears in person, though there are still stretches where someone with a fear of heights might be uncomfortable about proceeding.
