Looking southwest across Yosemite Valley from the Upper Yosemite Falls trail
Southwest Valley View
Looking southwest across Yosemite Valley from the first break in the trees along the Upper Yosemite Falls trail, about three-quarters of a mile from the second trailhead. You'll have climbed a series of switchbacks to get here, and will likely be happy for an excuse to rest for a moment. The views here are impressive, but at this spot you're only about a quarter mile from reaching Columbia Rock, which provides even better views looking east towards Half Dome.

Sentinel Rock protrudes from the leftmost edge of the rim visible here, and Taft Point is at the center, more or less, of the photo.
