succulents growing along the 4-Mile Trail

Succulents

Though wildflowers are not its claim to fame, the Four-Mile Trail complements its year-round scenery with a creditable wildflower display in the springtime. Spreading phlox, paintbrush, and American dogwood are among the more flamboyant species that grow along the trail. Here, a wall of succulents sprouts from a crack in a vertical granite ledge along the lower half of the trail. In a few weeks these plants will sproing flowers and grow up to be, if I'm any judge, Sierra stonecrop.
