The Old Grandad Tree

The Old Grandad Tree, one of the last mature sequoias along the Graveyard of the Giants Trail, is famed for an enormous galoot of a branch that stretches out from its upper reaches. A branch that, it turns out, is barely visible here - it's largely blocked by the tree at right. You can see it better in the photos below, which were taken from the opposite side of the tree.

This photo might not impress you with the size of the upper branches, but keep in mind that this shot was taken at a 15 mm focal length to fit everything in, and the branches in question are about 150 feet away.
