The Sierra Sky Ranch Resort has been around, in one form or another, since 1875. It began as a cattle ranch, served as a convalescent center for tuberculosis patients prior to World War II, became a recovery station for servicemen during the war itself (the steakhouse was once the mess hall), and was converted to a hotel in 1946.
The Sky Ranch may remind you of Yosemite's Wawona Hotel, another 19th century establishment, with its broad lawn, verandas, and telephone-free guest rooms. Unlike the Wawona, though, all the Sky Ranch's guest rooms have private bathrooms.
