Dewey Point, along the Pohono Trail in Yosemite Park

Dewey Point

Alas, there are no giant squids casting their shadows on El Capitan. That's just a cloud.

Which, incidentally, reinforces one of the most reliable truisms I've discovered from years of hit-and-miss photography: fitting water into a photo is never a bad idea. Be it puddles or oceans, streams or sprinklers, or even this extremely tangential example consisting merely of the shadow of an amorphous mass of water vapor, water always seems to improve matters. Even ponds of raw sewage will help raise a photo's pulchritudal power.
