Distance: 4 miles (6.5 km) round trip; 5 miles (8 km) including the Panorama Point vista
Elevation at trailhead: 7,220 feet (2,200 meters)
Elevation at top of Illilouette Falls: 5,800 feet (1,470 meters); falls are 370 feet (110 meters) high
Elevation at Panorama Point: 6,220 feet (1,865 meters)
Map Notes: The red line marks the Illilouette Falls trail, starting at the green hikers; the yellow line marks the bonus hike to the Panorama Point vista. The trek from the trailhead at Glacier Point to the bridge across Illilouette Creek, where the red line ends, is relentlessly downhill but not overwhelmingly steep. The Panorama Point bonus segment includes about 250 feet (75 meters) of elevation gain.
If you continue straight along the white trail instead of turning east for the last stretch to Illilouette Falls, you'll be on the Mono Meadow trail. If you hike past the Panorama Point vista, you'll merge with the Mist Trail and eventually arrive, a bit battered but seriously impressed, in Yosemite Valley; if this appeals to you, check out the Panorama Trail.
