The Squirrels of Doubt

The squirrels grow increasingly blunt and appraising as you get closer to the Half Dome cables, as if they've seen what sort of person makes it up the cables and what sort doesn't, and right now they're looking at a gene pool that's about to end. "You'll never survive," is the point they seem to be trying to get across, "so why keep that backpack full of valuable trail mix? Hand it over now or it'll just be wasted." They're wrong, though, so don't give in - you never know when the rescuers who find your body might need a snack.
