The Tunnel View
Yosemite's famed tunnel view, from which you can see (left to right): El Capitan, Clouds Rest,
Half Dome, Sentinel Rock,
Sentinel Dome, Cathedral Rocks, and
Bridalveil Fall. Oh, and
Yosemite Valley itself. From this vantage point,
the valley appears to be a solid mass of trees,
but there are actually meadows running much of the valley's length, and the Merced River is down there somewhere too.
Stopping at the tunnel view is an essential part of any Yosemite trip, especially your first one.
If you don't get your picture taken here, most of your friends will refuse to believe you've actually been to Yosemite.
