Half Dome During a Storm

This photo was taken from the Tunnel View, which lies at the opposite end of Yosemite Valley from Half Dome, using a 300-millimeter telephoto lens. A warning about the Tunnel View in the winter: while there may be more elbow room, it's sometimes harder to find a parking spot - after big storms, it can take a few days for the park service to get the parking lot fully plowed, and in the interim there may only be a dozen or so spots available. I've driven up to the Tunnel View before to photograph a promising looking sunset, only to find the reduced parking inventory already occupied and ending up missing the sunset altogether while I drove back down to the valley floor in search of a plan B.
