Photo Blind at the Merced National Wildlife Refuge

Along the southern end of the driving loop you'll pass the trailhead for this two-people-max photo blind, which is roughly a quarter mile walk from the road (see the orange balloon on the trail map for its exact location). It faces due west, so by mid-afternoon on clear days the birds beyond the blind will all be silhouettes. Scientists are generally optimistic about the possible existence of a phenomenon called "sunrise", which is like sunset except just the opposite and occurring very early in the morning. If it turns out to be a real thing, this would probably be an excellent time to be at the photo blind.
