After the legendary Ahwahnee Hotel, the Château du Sureau is the Yosemite area's best known luxury hotel. The accomodations range from hotel rooms starting at around $400 to a $3,000 private villa. (Yes, three thousand dollars was the figure you just read.) Lacking the Ahwahnee's prime Yosemite Valley location, the Château compensates with attention to detail in decor and service, both of which are widely praised. There's also a spa onsite and a five-star restaurant, Erna's Elderberry House, that foodies drive hundreds of miles to visit.
