The Cedar Lodge - El Portal, California
9966 Highway 140 · (888) 742-4371 · Map · Panorama View · Reviews · Website
The Cedar Lodge is actually a few miles west of El Portal, but it's still handy to Yosemite Valley, standing roughly 8 miles (13 km) west of the park's Arch Rock entrance and 16 miles (25 km) from the valley itself. It's directly across Highway 140 from the Merced River, where guests have access to a private beach - a boon in the summertime, when the Merced River Canyon can get toasty. (Despite their proximity, the Cedar Lodge's elevation is only about half Yosemite Valley's.) During the early summer you should be able to watch whitewater rafters on the river, and there's a raft tour company just around the corner from the lodge.
