The Clothespin Tree

The Nelder Grove's Clothespin Tree is an upside-down version of the Mariposa Grove's Clothespin Tree, which is cleft at the bottom. This one opens itself to the sky instead, which seems a poetically tree-like thing for a tree to be doing. The crowns of mature Giant Sequoias are often dead or damaged, a byproduct of having passed a thousand years' worth of thunderstorms as the tallest objects in their vicinity.

The Clothespin Tree is roughly 1.7 miles from the trailhead along the Graveyard of the Giants Trail (see the trail map page).
