The Yosemite View Lodge is as close as you can get to Yosemite Valley without actually being in Yosemite. The property runs right up against the park's western border on Highway 140. (The Arch Rock entrance, where the park's gatekeepers take your money, is another two miles inside the park, and Yosemite Valley itself is about 10 miles/16 km east.)
The lodge includes 335 guest rooms spread over a massive site that extends for more than a quarter mile along the length of the Merced River Canyon, bounded by Highway 140 on the north and the Merced River on the south; roughly half the rooms have river views.
Besides the sixteen score guest rooms, the lodge includes two restaurants, a bar, a gift shop/convenience mart, four swimming pools, six spas, and a coin-op laundry. The lodge can accomodate more guests than El Portal actually has residents, but despite all that capacity, it still fills up in the summer, and you risk sleeping in your car if you show up without a reservation.
