Glacier Point
For most hikers, this will be the starting point of the Pohono Trail trek. Though the Tunnel View is only six miles away as the crow flies (crows always fly perfectly straight, I've been given to understand), the Pohono Trail takes thirteen miles to deliver you to the same destination. Thirteen actual straight-arrow miles from Glacier Point would take you into the heart of El Portal, to the Wawona Hotel in southern Yosemite, or to the Cathedral Lakes trail a mile shy of Tuolumne Meadows. Mt. Hoffman, the snow-covered peak on the horizon about a third of a way over from the photo's left edge, is only nine miles away.
