Bridalveil Creek crossing along the Pohono Trail, Yosemite Park

Bridalveil Creek Crossing

For the four miles (seven kilometers) between Taft and Dewey Points, the Pohono Trail veers away from the valley rim, and the views change from spectacular to pedestrian. This crossing of Bridalveil Creek, about halfway along, is the visual highlight. This stretch is still attractive by most measures; it's only ordinary by Yosemite's incomparable standard. Long, workmanlike second acts aren't intended to match the intensity of great beginnings and climaxes anyway, which just goes to show that the Pohono Trail's designers had an instinctively sound grasp of dramatic structure and were unrelated to Henry James.
