Overhanging Rock & Yosemite Falls
Looking northwest, more or less, from Glacier Point across Yosemite Valley.
The Overhanging Rock has been providing photo ops for slightly crazy people for more than a hundred years. Perhaps the most famous hanging rock photo, capturing a pair of high-spirited fin-de-siècle women kicking up their skirts from atop the rock, can be found adorning postcards and refrigerator magnets in shops all over Yosemite.
The pose-on-the-rock tradition has continued until just the past few years, when park rangers, perhaps tired of waiting for natural selection to take its course, erected prominent "DANGER" signs throughout the area. Nervous observers can now gaze at the rock in peace almost all the time.
